Canvey won by 6 runs
Canvey squeaked home in a tight one at Smallgains
on Sunday. Chasing 191 for victory, the visiting Springfield Wanderers
team could not manage to take the required 13 from the final over and
came up short. That Canvey had managed to post a competitive total was
largely down to Paul Synnott. Synnott cracked his first fifty of the
season, hitting a frenetic 61, with trademark offside driving, and
sharp running between the wickets. Paul Ward contributed 46 at the top
of the innings, but apart from Peter Cook (24) no one else was able to
pass 20. Springfield were always behind the asking rate after tight
opening spells from Sam Collins and spinner Dave Shroder, used
imaginatively at the start of the innings. Gary Snowdon, as is his
wont, also kept the rate down, emerging with the best figures of 2 for
17. Ultimately, Sherwin’s 73 not out for Springfield proved in vain,
Canvey coming out on top again to extend their excellent record this
season.
