Canvey Island Cricket Club Results

Weekend 8th- 9th September

Saturday
Canvey Island          182-9
Hockley 2                118 all out
Canvey won by 64 runs

Shrugging off the effects of two seasons of injury and inactivity, Dave Shroder returned one of his best all-round performances for the club to show that the talent is still burning bright. Opening the innings for Canvey, Shroder showed that the old timing remains with a glorious 32. Boundaries were struck on both sides of the ground, and he looked well set for a deserved 50 before a mix-up with skipper Neil Casson saw his innings cruelly cut off in its prime. Casson shrugged off this setback to score a workmanlike 30, and with Paul Ward (42) and John Gunn (29) cutting loose at the end, Canvey were able to post a decent total. Hockley started well in their reply, but were pegged back by left-armer Darren Wright, who claimed 3 for 17 in seven penetrating overs. However, there was no stopping Shroder as he made an immediate impact with the ball, claiming the final two wickets with his devilish off-breaks. Canvey running out easy winners by 64 runs.

Sunday
Canvey Island            176-8
Eastwood 2               120 all out
Canvey won by 56 runs

Les Snowdon led Canvey to victory on Sunday against Eastwood. The young Eastwood side had no answer to his slow seamers as Snowdon returned career-best figures of 4 for 10. Batsman after batsman was bamboozled and ultimately undone by Snowdon’s unique bowling style. In tandem with Dave Shroder (3 for 24) who carried on his impressive form with the ball where he had left off the previous day, Snowdon ensured Canvey cruised to victory after a confident Eastwood opening partnership. On a day where the ball dominated, no one with the bat really impressed. Richie Burrill with a classy 35 was the only one to really shine for Canvey. Darren Wainer eked out a painful 22 from 27 overs, but all this was a mere prelude to the Shroder and Snowdon show.
