Canvey Island Cricket Club Results
Weekend 3rd August
Saturday
Writtle II 90 all out
Canvey Island I
91-4
Canvey won by 6 wickets
The threat of rain forced Neil Casson into
making one of the most difficult decisions of the season in choosing
to bowl first against possibly the weakest side in Division 7. It was
a move designed to get the game finished quickly, and finish early it
did, with Writtle subsiding to a miserable 90 all out in the face of
some penetrative swing bowling from Gary Snowdon. Raising his tally of
34 league wickets in the process, Snowdon claimed 5 for 16 as no
Writtle batsman had an answer to his wily away drifters. Richie
Burrill and John Gunn also claimed two wickets apiece to finish of the
innings, leaving Lee Banks (31) and Dave Shroder (29) the simple job
of knocking off the 91 runs needed for victory.
Springfield
44-3
Canvey Island II
Match abandoned
Rain ended this game early which was harsh
on Darren Wainer who was in the middle of a fiery spell of quick
bowling. He had already claimed all three of the Springfield wickets
to fall, and looked set to add to his tally until the weather
intervened.
